A 4.9 magnitude earthquake was recorded west of Tofino Friday evening. |
The West Coast of Vancouver Island felt a bit of a shudder tonight, with a 4.9 seismic event recorded just offshore, 28 kilometres West, Northwest of Tofino.
Listed at 31.3 kilometres in depth, the quake was recorded at 7:50PM
There was No Tsunami Threat generated by the event.
Beyond nearby Tofino and Ucluelet, the largest community in the region is Port Alberni which has approximately 20,000 residents.
It's located inland 107 kilometres from the epicentre at the eastern end of Alberni Inlet.
So far there have been a few reports from the region noting of some significant shuddering.
