Work got underway at the corner of McBride and Third Avenue West on Monday, as workers began the process of demolition of the old DQ building (click to enlarge) |
The demolition work on the Northern Savings property at McBride and Third West seemingly won't be that of a boom, or a bang ... But rather a steady chip chip chip.
After a morning of preparation work, the task of taking down the old Dairy Queen structure was fully underway by mid afternoon on Monday.
The opening punch through the wall coming just after 1 PM as an excavator knocked out the first of a number of segments of the walk facing McBride street.
As part of the demolition plan, workers have been posted on the corner at 3rd West and near 2nd Avenue West to direct pedestrians around the work area.
As we outlined on Thursday, Northern Savings Credit Union alerted its customers of the work ahead, which has required the closure of the parking lot along Third Avenue West.
The City of Prince Rupert observed of the work ahead over the weekend.
Northern Savings has not added to the details of their Thursday advisory of the work ahead or what may come following it.
But through their social media feed, some residents are offering up suggestions as to what should come next once the current building is removed and the land prepared for future development.
The land in question is part of the City of Prince Rupert's vision plan for what it calls the Gateway area, you can review those notes here.
Define “ a wide berth”. Is the road closed?
ReplyDeleteThe road is not closed, traffic it appears is able to transit up and down McBride Street without any limitations ... NCR
