The consultation with the membership is complete and in an information release from this morning the results of the BC Liberal name change vote will send the part on to a new branding program, with BC United the choice of the membership.

80 percent of the party membership which voted, selected BC United in voting that ended on Tuesday evening.

“For more than twenty years, our party’s name has been a constant topic of debate. A strong vote for BC United marks a new beginning. I’m excited to move forward as BC United because it really reflects our big tent party, united for a common purpose of making life better for British Columbians.” -- Kevin Falcon, Party Leader.

From their update on the name change plans, party officials charted the path forward for members.

Next steps include a constitutional ratification process for the new name as part of a delegated convention. This is expected to take place early in the new year, in accordance with the timing requirements set out in the BC Liberal Constitution.

Following ratification, the implementation timing, logos and other branding for the name change will be announced by the Leader.

BC United has been registered with Elections BC, and the party will retain registration of the BC Liberal name, and all associated domains, to avoid any other party obtaining its use.

The full announcement from the BC Liberals can be reviewed here.

The North Coast BC Liberal's shared the news through their social media feed this morning as well.

The announcement of the name change for the opposition Liberals comes as the governing NDP prepare to install their new leader this week.

David Eby will officially become both NDP leader and Premier of the province on Friday at a ceremony to take place at Vancouver's Musqueam Centre at 10AM.
