The ongoing work of Tourism Prince Rupert with its way finding and welcome sign program will be of some note as part of tonight's Prince Rupert City Council session, the program which has been underway for a number of months now will be the subject of one of two reports for council members for their Regular Session at 7PM.

The Signage program which which we introduced back in March of 2022, has placed a number of way finding signs around the city is the topic of a report from Planning Manager, Myfannwy Pope.
The focus of the report seeking adoption by the City of the guidelines developed by Tourism Prince Rupert to serve as the template for all future way finding signage in the community.

Tourism Prince Rupert offered up an update on the program back in October of 2022.

The Second report seeks the support of Council towards a waterfront recreational initiative from Tourism Prince Rupert and the creation of a Kayak and Canoe launch project.
The Details are few when it comes to where Tourism Prince Rupert is recommending placement for the facility, the Council members will gain a look at the preferred site and renderings of the project tonight, but the agenda package does not include the details for the public to review.
Of note from the report, is that should the plans move forward the City would be responsible for maintenance of the structure, the cost estimated as 500 dollars annually.
That element of the project would be subject to approval as part of the larger overall budget discussion to come this Spring.

Tourism Prince Rupert has also announced the installation of the Two Community Welcome signs, one at Butze Rapids the other just south of the BC Ferries Terminal on Park Avenue.

Tourism Prince Rupert’s Community Signage Improvement Project is in its final stages, with the installation of two new welcome signs at each main entrance to the community off Highway 16 completed over the past week, as well as the installation of new wayfinding and informational signage throughout the downtown and main tourism areas.
