More elements on City of Prince Rupert's waterworks infrastructure work out for Bid on BC Bid site



The City of Prince Rupert is pushing forward on its various infrastructure challenges with two more elements now up for bid on the provincial Bid site.

Entries to BC Bid from earlier this month note of calls for Bids for upcoming work related to bridge construction for the Shawatlan River and a consolidation of some of the city's sewer outfall system.


For the Shawatlan River work, the City notes the following:

The City of Prince Rupert invites tenders for decommissioning and replacement of approximately 700 metres of water main; construction of an approximately 30 metre bridge crossing of Shawatlan River; construction of two isolation valve chambers. 

The Scope for that work includes: 

Decommissioning 700 metres of the existing 600mm OD concrete and steel watermain from the north side of Shawatlan River to the existing underwater crossing of Fern Passage. 

Demolition and removal/disposal of approximately 300 metres of existing 600 mm concrete water main. Remainder to be decommissioned in place. 

Supplying, installing, and commissioning of new 762 mm OD HDPE water main 

Demolition and removal of superstructure and portions of substructure of existing pedestrian/pipe bridge crossing Shawatlan River. 

Installation of new bridge crossing complete with pipe, crossing the Shawatlan River Construction of one precast and one cast in place isolation valve chamber and construction of air release valve manhole. 

Supply and installation of electrical conduit, perforated subdrains, and culverts. 

Delivery of all equipment and materials to, and construction of the works on, the tidally restricted project location. 

Coordination of the work with the construction of the Fern Passage submarine water crossing. 

Comply with requirements of Archaeological Report and Environmental Management Plan.

A site meeting is set to review the project, set to take place at City Hall on June 13th.

Tenders close towards the work on June 30th at 2PM

The second water works related project involves plans to reroute some of. the city's outfall.

What the City is looking to accomplish from that work is explained below:

The City of Prince Rupert is seeking proposals from qualified proponents in response to this request for proposals for the provision of Services (as defined herein) to be carried out within the required schedule set out herein for Engineering services and design for the rerouting of the City Outfall J to Outfall I . 

Historically the city has utilized outfalls around the city but are now in the process of amalgamating as many outfalls as possible. The successful proponent will be provided with all historic and current data of the outfalls and their corresponding catchment area the city has acquired and maintained. 

Proponent must supply schedule and availability to start and end design works and provide a cost estimate to budget for the replacement/construction in the late Summer/Early Fall of 2023.
