A popular literacy program that has become a global phenomenon reached an impressive milestone yesterday, with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library reaching the 200 million book mark of reading material delivered to young children in five nations.
The program was created by the iconic American entertainer to help those who may not be able to afford reading materials to share in the magic of reading, the Imagination Library is just one of many charitable ventures that Dolly Parton has taken on.
Initiativeas that not only made her a Queen of music; but a champion of philanthropy and giving back to community.
Prince Rupert has played a role in that 200 million mark, with the Prince Rupert Port Authority which is a key supporter of the program locally, along with partner NCLN-North Coast Literary Now, noting that last year 2,457 books from the Imagination Library made their way to Prince Rupert children.
Some background on how the program was launched in Prince Rupert can be found from our blog item of January of 2022.
