Prince Rupert RCMP update the missing persons file on Michael Kitchener

Prince Rupert RCMP delivered some sad news for the community on Friday morning, an update from the local detachment advising that remains discovered on Mount Hays in May of this year had now been positively identified as those of Michael Kitchener.

The Prince Rupert resident had been reported missing the fall of 2021, with an extensive search taken on at that time.

The statement from the RCMP today available here noted the following:

In May of 2023 remains were discovered on Mount Hays in Prince Rupert which have now been positively identified and confirmed to those of Michael Kitchener. Foul play is not considered to be a factor in his death at this time.

"The Prince Rupert RCMP extends its condolences to Michael's family after this discovery. We hope this can assist in providing closure for his family and the entire community that has been impacted by his sudden loss." -- Media Relations Officer Cst. Brody Hemrich

The Prince Rupert detachment also relayed options for those in the community who may need to talk to someone about today's announcement.

If you are in need of someone to talk to please reach out to your local crisis line, or to the Prince Rupert RCMP Victim Services at 250-627-7779.
