Seafest in Serge ... RCMP celebrate 150 years as part of Seafest Weekend in Prince Rupert

As you travel from Seafest event to event on Saturday, whether downtown on Third or at the Civic Centre, pencil in a stop along the way at the Sixth Avenue West Detachment for the Prince Rupert RCMP.

The Mounties are celebrating their 150th year of Service to Canadians and Saturday offers a chance to learn more about the Force and to share in some cupcakes and fun, including what they say a chance for some Serge Selfies.

The event takes place at the Detachment Parking Lot from 1:30 to 4;30 on Saturday afternoon.

In their invitation to the public, the members of the Prince Rupert detachment note that Staff will be serving up birthday cupcakes to celebrate and there will also be hotdogs and cold beverages by donation, with all proceeds going directly to support Constable Jacque Van Wyngaardt's Cops for Cancer fundraising efforts. Constable Van Wyngaardt will also be present peddling away on his bike!

There are lots of other activities planned for the whole family.

Some of the list includes:

Getting a tour of a police cruiser, seeing our RCMP Coastal Policing Vessel up close and personal, Crime Stoppers and Victim Services will be in attendance, and you have the opportunity to meet Safety Bear themself!

There will lots of giveaways and you can event snap a "Serge Selfie" with a member in our iconic uniform, or if you prefer to see what you look like in the Scarlett Tunic you can have your picture taken in the Red Serge.

A look at the work of emergency responders across the Northwest can be explored here.
