With one of the last weekends before the unofficial end of summer now underway, the Prince Rupert RCMP has provided for some reading material and a reminder to Think Twice before driving impaired.

Constable Brody Brody Hemrich the Media relations Officer with the Prince Rupert RCMP recounts some of the enforcement activity and some surprising statistics from earlier this summer as an advisory for motorists as the summer winds down.

"A story from earlier in the summer highlighted the problem we are seeing in Prince Rupert, when a road block was shut down after only 15 minutes due to all the officers involved having an impaired operation investigation.

Since the beginning of June over 30 impaired operation investigations have taken place where drivers were issued Immediate Roadside Prohibitions or charges being forwarded to Crown Counsel for consideration.

It is imperative that people begin to understand the seriousness of this issue.

If you want to report an impaired driver call the Prince Rupert RCMP at 250-624-2136 or 9-1-1 in case of an emergency.

The Prince Rupert Detachment has a link to more information related to impaired cringing and the risks involved through their website which you can review here.

In their information release, the local detachment notes that as a result of the findings of their recent community survey they are targeting impaired driving by increasing patrols, road blocks and mandatory breath demands.
