Coast Mountain College in Terrace advises that campus housing allotments now full, with wait list available for those looking for accommodations

The fall semester for Coast Mountain College campus locations is just around the corner with the post Labour Day period marking the start of the next term and for those attending courses in Terrace the quest for housing is now underway.

And as students look to secure a place to live, Coast Mountain Officials have noted that their on campus housing facilities are now full, with staff taking names for a waitlist should some space become available.

Coast Mountain College is taking names towards that waitlist until tomorrow. Contact contact Student Housing Coordinator Anjo Colago at residence@coastmountaincollege.ca for more information on housing related themes.

The Terrace campus recently expanded the housing options at the main campus opening a new building in October of 2021, though the demand clearly continues to exceed the supply.

The situation is even more challenging for those students taking courses at the Prince Rupert campus on Fifth Street. That as, Coast Mountain College currently does not host any on campus housing in the community.

The topic has been one that has frequently been noted through our blog as something that has been on their list for the future.

But, each fall we seem to do up the same story with little progress announced by the college or North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice  over the last few years towards resolving one of the larger issues for students.

The last update of sorts on the issue came over a year ago in the summer of 2022.

The situation facing students in Prince Rupert, many of them part of the recent surge in global students attending Coast Mountain college across the Northwest, is that rental accommodation in Prince Rupert is currently a challenge to say the least, with few options for anyone student or not when it comes to affordable rental accommodation.

Hopefully, this fall will make for an announcement that some relief is on the way for the student population with Coast Mountain College and the province providing some guidance no the status of their housing plans and when some sense of progress will be provided.

  1. The new Terrace building didn't really "expand options". It just replaced older dorm buildings. The original dorms had more rooms when they were built. Why would the province fund more dorms when enrolment has been dropping for years? It was only 420 students last year. Many of those are international students. They get misled regarding the housing situation. The guy mentioned is no longer the housing coordinator. They posted that job.
