Blog Watching: Week ending August 27, 2023

Commercial Sector themes dominated  our list of the five most read items from  the blog  from the week just ended.

Among the most read, the newest liquor establishment in the city, Port City Spirits opened its doors with somewhat of a low profile soft opening.

Our look at the interest of City Councillor Barry Cunningham towards the status of what had once been promoted as some much needed hotel space for Park Avenue also gained some strong interest.

Also making news this week was  CityWest, the communication company owned by the City of Prince Rupert generated a pair of headlines through acquisitions, with both of our notes on the themes finding a large readership.

Those driving along Third West at McBride have likely noted that there is some increased activity on. the site for the new RCMP detachment build, with the start of work above the foundation now underway.

And the labour scene may heat up this September in Prince Rupert, with the UFCW noting of a less than successful round of negotiations with Canada Safeway this summer.

The top story of the week, takes us to Fraser Street, with Port City Spirits has finally opened the doors to "The Distillery.":

Prince Rupert's newest lounge opens its doors on Fraser Street -- After working its way through the civic and BC liquor approval process and some delays to the internal renovations, Port City Spirits opened the newest social lounge in the community, with the Distillery hosting a soft opening.     (posted August 22, 2023
