Prince Rupert officials may have opportunity to catch up with Federal Infrastructure Minister Sean Fraser at UBCM Housing Forum

If Prince Rupert has plans to send a delegation to the 2024 UBCM Housing Forum next week, it may offer up a chance for a quick sidebar chat with the Federal Minister of Infrastructure Sean Fraser. 

The opportunity one that could give civic officials a chance to see where the community is with the city's 82 million dollar infrastructure  request.

The trip west for Minister Fraser was just announced by UBCM Housing Summit organizes nation that he will be a Featured speaker at the two day housing summit in Vancouver February 13 and 14, the Minster set to take to the stage in the Wednesday afternoon session.

So if anyone from City Hall is in attendance next week, hanging around the stage shortly after 3:15 may offer up a short one on one opportunity with the Minister to offer up a reminder on the outstanding status of the funding bid.

The city is seeking the funding through the Federal Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund, some background on the City's quest came last August at a City Council session. 

City Council has not provided for any public updates towards progress of the application for the much anticipated civic funding quest since the New year began.

Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach, did make note of the city's funding request in late January, raising the topic it as part of the first week for the return of the House of Commons.

As for the Housing Summit, a sneak peek at the Agenda  released this week indicates a strong volume of participation from municipal officials from large and small communities across BC.  

Though for the most part it seems that other than Prince George officials, few speakers from the Northwest have been tapped for the working and discussions group sessions.

City Council members have yet to indicate if they plan to attend the conference in person and who may be part of any delegation; or if they plan to just take in the events by way of an online option.
