Rampage face off with Steelheads this weekend

They have an eye on a run for first place in the CIHL West, and for the Prince Rupert Rampage the team they are tracking arrives at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre on Saturday night.

The high powered Smithers Steelheads will provide the opposition for the final home game for 2015 at the Jim, sitting atop the standings in the West with an 8 and 3 record and by far the strongest offensive unit in the division.

In their 11 games to this point of the season, Smithers boasts some impressive numbers, counting 60 goals on opponents nets, while on the back end they have played some solid shut down hockey holding the opposition to 30 goals.

Saturday offers up what should be a highly entertaining match up for North Coast hockey fans, with the Rampage coming off an explosive twelve goal performance last weekend against Kitimat, and while twelve goals may be a little out of reach against a strong defensive squad as the Steelheads, the potential for scoring is clearly something that fans can look forward to.

Two Smithers names to watch for once the puck has dropped are Brendan and Adam DeVries, the two Steelhead players have been dominating the Western Division scoring totals all season, with Brendaon leading the league with 16 goals and 10 assists, while Adam is tied for third place overall with 10 goals and 8 assists.

Prince Rupert's Kory Movald is in the conversation as well for league leaders, the Rhino's forward currently is in seventh place in a tightly contested scoring race, with 8 goals and 8 assists.

Two other members of the Rampage have cracked the CIHL top 25 this season with Josh Cook listed at number 12 and Tyler Ostrom at 25.

Puck drop on Saturday night is at 7 PM at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre.

Following this weekend's action, the CIHL will take its annual holiday break, with no games scheduled until January 2nd.

The Rampage will have one extra week to return to form after a lengthy holiday break, with their first game  of 2016 scheduled for January 8th when they travel to Kitimat.

The first home game 2016 will be on January 9th when Terrace comes to town, which will also mark the final home game of the 2016 regular season.
