The British Columbia High School Basketball season has yet to tip off in competitive play, but heading into the 2015-16 season the Senior Boys Rainmakers of Charles Hays have already gained some notice.
The Vancouver Province released the BC Boys High School Basketball Association rankings on Monday and in AAA Senior hoops, the Rainmakers head into the season at number Five in British Columbia.
The full rankings included some familiar names from past battles at provincials and few new entries to keep an eye on as the high school basketball season moves forward.
1. St. Thomas More Knights (Burnaby)
2. Rick Hansen Hurricanes (Abbotsford)
3. Steveston-London Sharks (Richmond)
4. Southridge Storm (Surrey)
5. Charles Hays Rainmakers (Prince Rupert)
6. Lord Byng Grey Ghosts (Vancouver)
7. Nanaimo District Islanders (Nanaimo)
8. MEI Eagles (Abbotsford)
9. Windsor Dukes (North Vancouver)
10. R. A. McMath Wildcats (Richmond)
Charles Hays, which went to the Senior Boys Final in Langley last March tips off their quest to return to the Lower Mainland this month. The start of what the team hopes will be four month run and another shot at the provincial title.
The Rainmakers will be taking on Northwest rival Terrace this weekend, while a squad from North Vancouver makes the trek north one week later.
One other squad from the Northwest received notice in the pre season poll as the Queen Charlotte Saints from Haida Gwaii received an honourable mention in the AA category.
Last week we noted on the blog that the Junior Boys program also made it into the provincial rankings, with the Charles Hays squad given an honourable mention in last weeks pre season poll.
