Whitecaps FC Academy debuts this weekend in Prince Rupert

The first significant milestone for the recently announced Whitecaps FC Northern Academy takes place this weekend when head coach Craig Angus and his associate head coach Ewan Fisher put the young lads and lasses of Prince Rupert through their paces at the Charles Hays field.

The Whitecaps Academy is holding a free training day for all youth soccer players in the community on Sunday, with a training session arranged for four different age brackets.

All Training at Charles Hays Secondary on Prince Rupert Boulevard

Under 9 and 10 years --10 to 11 AM
Under 11 and 12 years -- 11:15 AM to 12:15 PM
Under 13 and 14 years -- 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM
Under 15 and above --  1:45 - 2:45 PM - 3:35 PM

In addition to the opportunity to receive some top level training, the two coaches will also be looking over the skills of the players on the pitch with an eye towards invitation to participate in the Whitecaps Northern Academy program that gets underway next month.

Parents are reminded to make sure that their players have proper soccer gear on when they arrive to participate.

Only a limited number of players will be invited to participate in the Whitecaps program which will see 8 sessions held in the community from May 7 to July 9th.

The coaches will also be happy to answer any questions that parents or players may have about the program through the day Sunday.

Prince Rupert is one of a two Northwest initiatives that the program has taken on this year, the Whitecaps Academy is also being set up for players in the Terrace/Kitimat region.

We introduced the program earlier this year with this item, which provided a bit of background to what the Whitecaps are hoping to achieve through their push into the Northwest.
