The representative of the Chinese Government in British Columbia is visiting the North Coast this week, exploring some of the industrial footprint found in the region and meeting with local officials to expand on trade opportunities between Canada and the People's Republic of China.

Consul General Tong Xiaoling was in Prince Rupert on Thursday exploring the range of port facilities with the Port of Prince Rupert which has become a growing gateway to Asia and an expanding presence when it comes to Global trade.

The visit to the region also found the Consul General meeting with community members, business leaders and local government officials including Mayor Lee Brain, who provided a short update on his meeting through his Social media stream.

The volume of trade between North America and China that passes through Prince Rupert's facilities has been on the increase over the last decade, though some clouds may be on the horizon for the near future as the American government follow through on trade tariffs and other measures under the current direction that President Trump is taking the issue of trade with Canada, China and Europe.

The Consul Generals office in Vancouver is a key element of relations between Canada, British Columbia and China and the Consul General makes frequent trips to Northern British Columbia to explore new initiatives and to keep up to date on potential investment opportunities.

You can review some of the focus for Consul General Tong Xiaoling from this item from the Consulate website.

The most recent prospect of investment in the Northwest from China can be found in Terrace, with community officials having recently returned from Asia as part of trade and investment tour of the region.
