Special Air Quality Statement issued for Prince Rupert/North Coast

With smoky and hazy conditions continuing to be found across the Northwest, Environment Canada has expanded the scope of their Special Air Quality Statement, adding Prince Rupert and the North Coast to the list of communities in the Northwest where the Statement is in effect for.

The Special Statement was issued by Environment Canada and the BC Ministry of Environment at just after the noon hour today.

As we noted earlier this week, smoke from fires across British Columbia, Canada and as far away as Siberia have created for the haze and air quality conditions, a situation that has been exacerbated by the ongoing hot weather in the Inland areas of the Northwest.

The original air quality statement was issued on Wednesday for all of Northern BC, outside of the coastal regions.
