Blog Watching: Week ending July 8, 2018
An industrial incident at the city's recreation centre captured a significant share of the attention this week, with Emergency Responders and civic centre staff responding to the report of an ammonia leak at the arena at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre on Wednesday.
There were some travel woes for travellers on BC Ferries this past long weekend, as the Northern Adventure suffered a mechanical issue related to its Fire Detection system leaving it tied up in port at Fairview until the part and a specialist arrived from Florida.
Local fundraisers are well on the way to their target for fundraising for a clinic that will be named after former Prince Rupert City Councillor Nelson Kinney, the tribute just one of a number of ideas that have been suggested to honour the life of the late councillor who passed away in March.
The BC Coroner's office was called in to take over the investigation of a body discovered in the waters of Inverness Passage, with the RCMP and Canadian Coast Guard turning the file over to the Coroner earlier this week.
The trail has only been open but a few days and already it is marking its place in the community as residents took to the Rushbrook Trail over the Canada Day weekend, taking the scenic trek between Seal Cove and the Rushbrook Floats.
However it was this weeks report of an ammonia leak at the Civic Centre and the quick response by emergency personnel and recreation staff workers that dominated our list of five on the week.
