| New Housing in Lax Kw'alaams is almost ready for occupancy as the Band Council begins to accept applications from residents of the community |
The first part of an ambitious Housing program for members of the Lax Kw'alaams Band has reached the application stage, with completion of some new Elders Housing in the community north of Prince Rupert.
Last Month the Lax Kw'alaams Band posted the details of the application process, with paper copies of the application forms available at two locations, at the Band Offices on Shashaak Street in Lax Kw'alaams as well as at 100 1st Avenue East in Prince Rupert.
Members can also download the forms from the Lax Kw'alaams website or contact the manager of housing for the Band to request an electronic copy.

In the fall of 2019, the Lax Kw'alaams Band made note of the new construction of the sixteen units in the community and how it would be the first wave of up to eighty homes to be built both in Lax Kw'alaams and Prince Rupert.
The Lax Kw'alaams Band Council has been hailed by Prince Rupert Mayor Lee Brain for their housing plans for Prince Rupert, where sixty units of subsidized and affordable rental housing are to be developed by the Band on 11th Avenue East in the City.
Not much is known about the Lax Kw'alaams plans, with the last significant review of that project coming last December as part of an evening of announcements hosted by Mayor Lee Brain as part of his Rupert 2030 vision showcase.
However, since that night of presentations there has not been much more relayed to the public about the proposed housing project or any timeline towards its development.
