Port Edward residents remain on edge after yet another wolf sighting this morning

While members of the British Columbia Conservation Officer Service may have destroyed one problem wolf in Port Edward, reports out of the community just south of Prince Rupert indicate that there is more work to be done, with another report of a wolf sighting relayed by the District of Port Edward just this morning.

In their message for residents the District notes that traps and snares have been set around the community, advising residents to walk in groups, increase their vigilance of children and to keep their pets in the house.

Yesterday, the BCCOS outlined its work this week in capturing and putting down a wolf similar in appearance to the one that attacked a Port Edward elder of Friday night, a necropsy scheduled for today will determine if the wolf that was killed was indeed the one responsible for that attack.

The victim was first taken to Prince Rupert Regional Hospital on Friday night, he has since been taken south to Vancouver General Hospital for further treatment.

Conservation Officers have also responded to a number of sightings in the Prince Rupert area this week, among the areas that residents have called in reports about encounters or sightings were the golf course, Hospital and areas in the east side of the city.
