Around the region residents of the North Coast have been breaking out the Christmas Lights, with bragging rights up for grabs through the Prince Rupert Special Events Society |
The annual Christmas time festival of Winterfest may be on hold for a year, but Prince Rupert's Special Events Society is still looking to get the city into the Christmas Spirit with a pair of projects to spark some creativity this season.
The first will put some competitive spirit into the neighbourhoods of Prince Rupert and Port Edward with the Light up the Town project, with Prince Rupert Special Events opening up the submission window for residents to show off their work.
Towards the competition they are asking that you send a photo or video (max. 30 sec.) of your own decorating creation to lightupthetownpr@gmail.com.
Entries will be received until December 17th, 2020, but the sooner you enter the more opportunity there will be for people to vote for you.
The Entries will be uploaded to the Light Up the Town event page where people will vote for their favourite entry by reacting or commenting on posts between December 4th to 18th, 2020.
The homes or businesses that get the most reactions will be deemed the winners. Winners will be recognized with a winner's sign from the Prince Rupert Community Arts Council and the Prince Rupert Special Events Society.
The Contest will be open to residents of Prince Rupert and Port Edward.
Santa Claus is also working with Prince Rupert Special Events this year, having had to cancel the annual parade in the city owing to COVID, Santa will be reading the letters he receives through CityWest community Television.
To participate in Letters for Santa you can submit pictures of you and your family • Photos of handwritten letters and drawings, Pictures of your Christmas tree or house lights or Videos of you telling a Christmas joke
Send your Greetings to Santa to princerupertevents@gmail.com by THURSDAY, December 3, 2020 and they will be included in the shows.
For Parents and Guardians the following notes provide some guidance on how the initiative works:
(Take a picture of any hand drawn materials with your phone or scanner. All photos, videos or personal information must be submitted by the parents/guardians of the children who have authority to grant consent for these things to be broadcasted. No last names will be displayed.)
Citywest Community Television will broadcast the collection at a time to be announced this month.
With COVID having an impact on many of the plans this year, many of the popular events of the season have been cancelled for this year, from the Tree Lighting evening at the Court House, to the parade, sail past and fireworks.
You can find the latest notes on the Christmas plans from the Special Events Website and Facebook page.
