Weekend play puts wrap on CIHL Regular season, with Rampage in Kitimat tonight; home season finale Saturday with Smithers

The long hard skate through the 2022-23 CIHL regular season comes to an end this weekend, with the Prince Rupert Rampage set for two contests ahead towards how the 2023 Playoff season will all come together.

The Rhinos head to Kitimat for 7:30 match up with the Ice Demons at the Tamitik Arena.

It's been a challenging season for the Kitimat side, who have yet to pick up twin in their fifteen games played to date, the IceDemons have two points in the standings as a result of two Overtime losses on the year.

It's been a year where their scoring touch has been missing for much of the season, the Ice Demons hosting the Lowest Goals For in the league as well as the highest volume of Goals Against.

All of which has meant for some frustrations for the player and penalty filled games.

How the rosters look towards tonights play can be reviewed below:

The Rampage go into this evenings contest sporting a 10 and 4 record holding on to their West Division lead by a single point over Terrace.

Terrace have one game left in the season, that goes tomorrow night with Hazelton  coming to the Terrace Ice Arena.

So there is much motivation to come out of the Aluminum City with two points to secure a first place finish in the division.

Saturday night is alright for Rampage Hockey, with the regular season home
game set for a 7 PM puck drop with Smithers

The Rampage return to the Jim on Saturday night with Smithers coming to town the Steelheads hosting a 7-7 record going into the final weekend of play.  That record has them pegged at third place in the CIHL East which has been dominated by the two Cariboo teams since the first puck dropped in the fall of 2022.

Players to watch for the visiting Steelheads include Brendan Moore who has 8 goals and 13 assists so fart his season,  Brendan Devries is one point of the pace of Moore with 12 goals and 8 assists, Kodi Schwarz has also had a good run in 2022-23 with 5 goals and 13 assists.

The Rampage offensive push has been led by Judd Repole who sits seventh overall in CIHL scoring with 8 goals and 17 assists.  Hunter Johnson is a bit back in the listings with 12 goals and 6 assists on the year heading into weekend play.

The final call up of the Regular session has the Rampage tapping Lukas Ciotoli on the shoulder, the PRMHA call up will be part of the pre game showcase prior to puck drop.

As we outlined on Wednesday, the January fundraiser on the Fight Against Cancer hosted by the Rampage was a spectacular success story, with the team and their strong core of volunteers and their fans along with the local business and industrial groups in the city coming together to raise just under 100,000 dollars.

Money which will be put to use towards. the purchase of three scopes for use at Prince Rupert Regional Hospital.

Saturday night should offer up a chance for the latest update on the initiative and a quick look at the team's Social Media feed suggests that the news will be adding more to the success of last month.

Puck drop is 7PM at the Jim which should see another huge crowd on hand to bring down the curtain to the Regular season and ramp up the excitement for the playoffs ahead.
