Marine Blob now in place in the Pacific off of Haida Gwaii offers a hint of what wicked weather may yet come

Satellite imagery from a NOAA report shows a giant mass
of weather forming up in the Pacific Ocean just off Haidi Gwaii

A fascinating Satellite Image this evening from the US  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, provides a striking visual of a massive marine blob  that has formed off the west coast of Haida Gwaii.

And if the winds steer it our way, we imagine what should be a pretty wet few days will soon arrive.

The early warning for Haida Gwaii and North Coast residents first came through the social media platform of twitter and a tweet from Peter Vogel a Vancouver based Tech journalist and retired educator with a passion for meteorology, who noticed a Friday evening satellite pass at 6:45 PM and relayed the image collected.

So far it would appear that the massive marine blob is still just a bit out of the range for any Environment Canada Weather Advisories, though the most recent forecast page for the North Coast does indicate that there will be much rain and wind on the way for the region by the time Sunday comes around.

The Marine Forecast however has already been upgraded to a STORM WARNING, with winds of 60 knots for Saturday and seas building to 6 metres by Saturday evening.

If the mass of weather seemingly approaching makes its way on a track towards Prince Rupert those winds and seas could become even more concerning as we head towards Monday.

Check back with the blog over the weekend from time to time to see if the status ahead for the North Coast and Haida Gwaii changes, you can also follow our twitter account for notices of new stories on the North Coast Review.
