An image captured by a NOAA satellite on Friday evening shows the formation of our latest weather maker off Haida Gwaii |
A stormy January will continue this weekend, with Environment Canada issuing a WIND WARNING for Haida Gwaii and Coastal areas of the North Coast today.
A vigorous frontal system is approaching Haida Gwaii set to arrive this afternoon with very strong winds of up to 100 km/h spreading to the North and Central Coasts by this evening.
It's anticipated that the Winds will ease near midnight over Haha Gwaii and by early Sunday morning on the North Coast.
We discovered a first glance at this weather maker yesterday through twitter and a post that highlighted a massive blob of weather energy forming off the west coast of Haida Gwaii.
Marine warnings have been increased today as well, with Environment Canada issuing a Hurricane Force WIND WARNING for the waters off of Haida Gwaii and the North Coast. The Winds from the Southeast will reach up to 65 knots later this evening, with seas of six metres at the height of the passing of the weather system.
