Prince Rupert Fire Rescue responded to a fire aboard a crab vessel at Fairview Floats on Thursday morning,  with the fire crew working quickly to contain the blaze to the cabin area of the vessel.

In an update through their social media feed, the PRFD notes that the early morning call came at 7:45 yesterday with the arriving crew finding the commercial crabber ablaze at the dock.

Using their aggressive fire attack, firefighters made use of portable fire pumps to take to the work of putting the fire out.

As a result of their quick actions no other boats were damaged and fortunately no injuries were reported as part of the call.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Assisting the Fire Department in their work of Thursday morning were a number of local agencies including the Canadian Coast Guard, Port Edward Harbour Authority staff, Prince Rupert RCMP, BC Ambulance Service and the Prince Rupert Port authority Marine Safety unit.

The PRFD offers its thanks to all of them with a post to their Facebook page.
