Parents and Guardians looking to place their children in the Prince Rupert School District Kindergarten program should take note of the upcoming registration period, set to take place from February 1-12 in Prince Rupert and Port Edward.
Registration will take place at Catchment schools across the city.
Those looking to make an appointment have options available from 1 to 3 PM each day at Conrad Elementary, Lax Keen Elementary, Pineridge Elementary and Roosevelt Park Elementary.
Registration for the French Immersion program in the city is also hosted at École Roosevelt Park.
Residents of Port Edward will be able to register their children on Tuesdays and Thursday's only with the hours for registration set at 9AM to 11:30 during the two week period.
The School District also reminds parents/guardians of the social distancing measures that are in place in the schools, including the need to wear a mask when on school property.
Enrolment for the program is available for children who will be five years of age as of December 31st, 2021, though parents may choose to defer their child's entry to the school program for one year based on readiness.
Should you have concerns about the readiness of your youngster for Kindergarten contact the school in your catchment area for more guidance.
When Registering, Parents will be required to provide the following:
A copy of the child's Birth Certificate (or other proof of age such as a Permanent Residence Card, Provincial ID card or Passport)
BC Care Card
Immunization Records
Proof of Address
SD52 notes that students who are not registered during the two-week registration period are not guaranteed a placement at their neighbourhood school.
As they get closer to the registration period, more details on the program will be available from the SD52 website.
