Travel costs associated with the President's office of Northwest Community College has made an impression with the Canadian Tax Payers Federation, which compiled travel numbers from 17 colleges and universities in the province, all part of a study named The Deans List of Waste.
And while the NWCC numbers related to air travel from the President's office are fairly low compared to say the high flying ways of the University of British Columbia, the Northwest dollar count at $19,967.60 does come close to cracking the 20,000 dollar mark, on a par with many of the other institutions reviewed.
Of particular concern for the CTF study, was the lack of a declaration of destinations from the Northwest files on travel that they examined.
In fact, it was the lack of oversight on all of the travel costs that the CTF Found from all of its review that was the most surprising.
As for the NWCC files, the travel costs were recorded from 2012 to early 2014 and are from the expenses claimed by former President Dr. Denise Henning, with the CTF making an access to Information request to gain a review of them.
Ms. Henning left NWCC earlier this year, taking up duties at Medicine Hat College in Alberta.
Northwest Community college announced the start of their executive Search in Janaury, in what turned into a near nine month search.
The success of that quest was announced in September with the arrival of Ken Burt, who took on the duties of President and CEO of NWCC, he most recently served in the VP of Finance position at Halifax's Dalhousie University.
