Tuesday COVID update brings lower case counts, reminder on reducing risk

With the weekend making for a bit of a reality check for British Columbians, the Tuesday COVID report from Dr. Bonnier Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix delivered a bit more less alarming reviews, with lower case counts and a more positive theme on community outbreaks.

"Today, we are announcing 13 new cases, for a total of 3,128 cases in British Columbia. There are 209 active cases of COVID-19 in the province and 2,730 people who tested positive have recovered.

Of the total COVID-19 cases, 14 individuals are hospitalized, five of whom are in intensive care. The remaining people with COVID-19 are recovering at home in self-isolation."

Across the province, the volume of cases is as follows: 1,015 cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 1,649 in the Fraser Health region, 135 in the Island Health region, 212 in the Interior Health region, 65 in the Northern Health region, that amount has been consistent since June.

As well, 52 cases of COVID related to people who reside outside of Canada.

“There have been no new COVID-19 related deaths, for a total of 189 deaths in British Columbia. We offer our condolences to everyone who has lost their loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic."

From the burst of case counts of the weekend, the public health officials provided a reminder as to the need to remain committed to the goal of reducing your risk, while remaining active with close contacts.

“As evidenced by the number of new cases of COVID-19 in recent days, the potential for new COVID-19 cases goes up with every increase in our activity.

Public health teams are actively working to manage cases and clusters as they emerge and keep new cases low and slow.

COVID-19 symptoms can be mild, making it very easy to spread the virus to those around us. That is why it is so important to be 100% healthy before we step outside our door. “If you are not feeling well in any way, stay home and stay away from others. This is very important whether you are at home or travelling.

Let’s recommit to the basics of fewer faces, bigger spaces. As much as possible, we need to stay away from closed spaces, crowds and close contact with others. To do this, keep your group small, stay outside as much as possible and maintain a safe physical distance from everyone other than those in your bubble."
