Canadian Coast Guard launches recruitment for Inventory of Assistant Lightkeepers

If you're looking for a job where you don't have to deal with a lot of co-workers and heading off to the pub after a shift with the team isn't a social thing for you ...

Then the Canadian Coast Guard may have just the post for you!

The Coast Guard launched their call for Assistant Lightkeepers this week.

The opportunity one to allow the Coast Guard to build an inventory of keepers to fill in when the regular Lightkeepers take a vacation or have a need for time off for other reasons.

The career is unique in that you are as they say on your own island in remote locations, and self sufficiency would seem a key.

Among the duties while on the job:

In British Columbia, Candidates who are hired must be willing and able to travel from their place of residence to the designated point of departure (Victoria, Prince Rupert, Bella Bella and Port Hardy) at their own expense.

That requirement is one of a number of conditions of Employment you can review below:

Notable for its proximity to the Prince Rupert area is the Triple Island Lighthouse,  though there are a number of others on the North and Central Coast and Haida Gwaii where you could be tasked to.

The job pays between $45,241 to $60,707

The full overview of the job posting can be reviewed here.

There's no urgency towards a decision though, the job opportunity closes at the end of December this year.

Now if catching up on a lot of reading and dealing with isolation isn't really your thing, but you wouldn't mind working with the Coast Guard and share in some camaraderie of some co workers ...

The list of jobs as well as notes on how to join the Officer training program  currently available can be reviewed here.
