As regional housing plans percolate Metlakatla seeks members for Housing committee

First Nation governments around the North Coast have been taking the lead on development of housing both in their home communities and in Prince Rupert, wit a number of projects both past and now in development a testimony to their interest in securing affordable housing for their members and adding to the much needed housing stock in the city itself.

Among some of the recent housing initiatives

Metlaktalta led  Cedar Village for Seniors and Elders
Gitxaala led Anchor Inn residences
Lax Kw'alaams led 11th Avenue Apartment complex
Nisga'a interest in development of property at Frederick and Hays Cove
Groundbreaking last week for the Gixaala led townhomes on Kootenay

The burst of activity making for some much welcome attention to an issue that has been part of the City Council discussion for nearly a decade.

As the area First Nations continue with their plans towards additional housing initiatives, Metlakatla has put out word in their community of a call for members for their Housing Committee.

The First Nation is looking for applications from up to four (4) Metlakatla members to sit on the Metlakatla Housing Committee for a term of three years. 

The deadline for submission is November 8, 2023.
