City's New Flag gains notice from provincial municipal affairs reporter

The new look for the civic flag has made for some discussion over the weekend locally on social media, but a much larger stage for the new civic ensign was provided on X, the former Twitter, where the CBC's municipal affairs reporter Justin McElroy provided a review for the new look.

As we noted on Friday, the new flag was approved by City Council in a unanimous vote, that after council members had sent city staff back with the original proposals, with instructions towards a few refinements to come back with.

Mr. McElroy who has become a well regarded observer on municipal branding and such, is famous for his listings of municipal pins, flags and such.

And when it comes to the Prince Rupert flag he was mostly approving of the look, though he like a few others on social media has suggested dropping the big black type of Prince Rupert that. makes for the upper frame of the flag..

The City was quick to react to the attention provided to their work of the summer and fall providing a reply to the CBC Reporter through his social media feed.

Council may still have time to consider whether they wish to take up the focus group suggestion from the municpal flag reviewer,  as to whether they should include the name of the city on the flag.

There was no indication that any orders had been put in so far towards manufacturing a new flag or when the new civic emblem will be placed in front of City Hall.

More notes on civic themes can be reviewed through our Council Discussion archive.
