The ceremony Saturday was organized by local volunteers with assistance of the Indian Residential School Survivors Society, the Totem Pole recognizes and commemorates those survivors and their families, as well as the missing and murdered Women and Girls and 2 Spirit people in the province.
The pole was carved in great detail and care by artist Mike Dangeli and his team. It stands ten feet tall and is a sister pole to one near Kitsumkalum, which was also raised for the same reasons.
Following the pole raising, a feast was held at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre, where local cultural traditions, food and speeches were shared." -- North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice
Ms. Rice used her time to also note of the work done towards improving communication options along the Highway 16 corridor
