West side structure fire Tuesday claimed one life, sent others to Prince Rupert Regional Hospital


Prince Rupert Fire/Rescue personnel were called out to a structure fire in the 200 block of 7th Avenue West on Tuesday, with firefighters and paramedics responding to the call for assistance that came in around 2 PM.

Upon arrival firefighters tackled the blaze, which first started as a rescue mission, with PRFD members assisting three occupants of the building, then turning their attention towards extinguishing the fire 

All were transported by BC Ambulance Service to Prince Rupert Regional Hospital,  two of those  from the building were treated for minor injuries and later released. 

Sadly one occupant, a woman, succumbed to her injuries.

Reports from both the RCMP and PRFD indicate  that the fire was not considered suspicious in nature, the file will now be turned over to the BC Coroner's Service.
