City Council selects a New Flag to Fly

The Successful In House design selected by City Council to be the
new Civic Flag for Prince Rupert

It's taken an extra month or so of tweaking the design, but on Tuesday evening Prince Rupert City Council members came to a consensus on which one was the best option to be adopted as the new Civic Flag.

The need for a bit of additional time to consider the flag initiative came from the August Council Session where the members of Council could not agree on which of the options of the summer best represented the city,

From that summer session they sent city staff back with some instructions to narrow the field down, that after offering up some design guidance towards what may gain their approval.

Tuesday night, Veronika Stewart, the City's Manager of Communications, Engagement and Social Development provided for a report on the revised look for the proposed municipal flag.

Mayor Pond perhaps mindful of the lengthy discussion that came out of the Flag debate of August asked for just a simple vote, asking each Council member to offer up their choice for the flag that they believes was best.

Of the three flags (seen above) up for selection, the option of C was the successful choice, a unanimous decision of the Council membership, the vote taking just one minute and fourteen seconds to reach the decision.

There was no indication offered up on Tuesday as to when residents may see the flag fling from the front of City Hall.

More notes related to the Tuesday Council Session can be reviewed here.
