No Timeline yet for ongoing work on Sixth Avenue Bridge

 

The City is still waiting for a report on the status of the Sixth Avenue East
Bridge, leaving it only partially open for now

Transportation themes around the City made for a few discussion themes for the first City Council session for 2024, and high atop the list was a request for a status update on the partial closure of the Sixth Avenue East Bridge, which has had reduced capacity since mid December, with only the eastbound lane available.

The topic was introduced by Councillor Barry Cunningham, who asked towards the ongoing work and what kind of a timeline that the City was working on towards reopening both lanes to traffic.

Director Richard Pucci observed how the city is still waiting for the final analysis of the bridge which will outline the weight load that the bridge can take.  

"At this point, we are still awaiting for the final analysis from the Bridge Engineer ... the amount of weight on the structure for Dead Load compare to Live Load right now has to have a second calculation to ensure that it can handle all of the traffic coming back and forth,

We're just waiting for those calculations"

As to an answer to the Mayor's question for an estimate towards a timeline for that information, the Director advised he hoped for a report by the end of the week.

"They were on vacation as of last week, so we are hoping to have something by the end of this week"
