A look at the now cleared site of the Empress Hotel with a light dusting of snow from this morning |
The last of the debris has been carted away from the site of the old Empress Hotel, the lot now cleared for now in use as a parking area for the owners City Furniture.
The demolition process made quick work of the once legendary downtown hotel and pub, taking but a few days to wrap up once underway.

So far, the owners have not indicated publicly, what may rise on the valuable property in the heart of the downtown core.
The Empress work began shortly after the Belmont Hotel and Rose's demolition project across the street wrapped; the combined space making the area ready for new development and rebirth of sorts for the western end of Third Avenue West.
The next significant Demolition project will be that of the Angus Apartments on Second Avenue West, though as the community learned at the January 8th Council meeting, that demolition work will not bring immediate results, expected to take up to three months to wrap up.
Council commentary on some of the past Demolition work can be explored through our Council Discussion archive page.
