MLA Rice receives her critics portfolio

While the NDP perhaps is still trying to come to terms with the results of the May election, the work of providing for oversight and review of the now returned Christy Clark Liberals is now underway.

Towards that process, NDP leader Adrian Dix named his shadow cabinet today, announcing that the North Coast MLA, Jennifer Rice will take on duties as critic for northern and rural health.

In addition to that portfolio, Ms. Rice will also be the deputy critic for children and family development.

The other Northwest MLA to receive a spot in the shadow cabinet was Skeena MLA Robin Austin, who will be tasked to keep watch on the natural gas file, an important plank in the Liberal platform in the recent election.

Ms. Rice was sworn into her position as an MLA on Wednesday, earlier this week she resigned her seat on Prince Rupert City Council.

The NDP released some background on his announcement today, the new shadow cabinet will return to the Legislature June 26th.

The full list of the shadow positions can be found here.
