Prince Rupert RCMP launch search for missing teen

The Prince Rupert detachment of the RCMP is turning to the public for assistance in locating a missing teenager, Shawn Martin, last seen in the city at the 7-11 at around 11 PM on Sunday night.

The last contact he made with anyone was at 12:30 early Monday morning and the RCMP are seeking more information on his location as they work their ongoing missing person's case file.

Mr. Martin is 19 years of age, stands 5 foot six inches tall, weighing 110 pounds,  with long blonde hair and Blue eyes.

He may be driving at black 1994 Honda Civic 2 door, with licence plates of 625 XMM. There are some indications that Mr. Martin may have been driving in the direction of Terrace, but the RCMP cannot confirm that possible lead into his direction of travel.

At this stage of the investigation police are making every possible effort to locate Shawn... Shawn’s family and friends are very concerned of his whereabouts, and we are making an appeal to Prince Rupert and the surrounding communities for any information that may assist us in locating Shawn. -- Constable Matthew Ericson in a statement released Monday afternoon

Should anyone have any information on his whereabouts or have had contact with him they are asked to contact the RCMP at 250-627-0700 or through CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477)

Update 7 PM : Sad news was delivered by the RCMP on Monday evening with this update to their investigation, with an advisory that Mr. Martin's vehicle had been located in the area of Rainbow Summit where Mr. Martin's body was recovered.

"It is with great sadness that we have to inform the community of this incident, and our sincere condolences go out to the family and friends affected by this tragic event ...  At this time it is too early to speculate as to what may have attributed to this collision. Currently a RCMP Collision Analysts has been contacted and will be conducting an investigation at the scene". -- Statement from Constable Ericson of the Prince Rupert Detachment of the RCMP

At this time, Police are asking the community to respect the privacy of Shawn’s family during this difficult time.
