MLA's Week: March 15-18, 2021


Week three of the Spring Session for the BC legislature saw the pace of debate on a number of items of legislation pick up in the Chamber, with two of the three Northwest MLA's in the the thick of the discussions.

Skeena MLA Ellis Ross was in Victoria for the week os sessions, participating in the House Chamber, while MLA's Rice and Cullen continued to participate by remote video means from their home constituencies.

On the week, Ms Rice was mentioned once in the record for the week in the Legislature from March 15-18

For much of the week, the MLA could be found around the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre, lending a hand as a volunteer at the community wide vaccination clinic. 

Wednesday the MLA shared some thoughts for the Legislature on how the program was going.   


Earlier in the week, Ms. Rice also had observed through her social media stream, on the news from Northern Health declaring an end of the COVID-19 outbreak at the Acropolis Manor in Prince Rupert.


The North Coast MLA is also a member of the Following committees:


Ms. Rice serves as the Government's Parliamentary Secretary for Emergency Preparedness

For our readers from the Terrace-Kitimat region, Skeena MLA Ellis Ross  was mentioned three times in the record for the week in the Legislature from March 15-18

On Monday, the MLA participated in the debate over the government's Bill of Supply



As part of the Wednesday session, Mr. Ross spoke to the topic of how the government has moved forward with Bill 11 , with the MLA seeking to learn how much consultation with First Nations the government has had towards the Court of Appeal Act


Mr. Ross is currently the BC Liberal's Opposition Critic for Environment and Climate Change Strategy.

The Skeena MLA is also contesting for the leadership of the BC Liberal Party

For our readers from the Bulkley Valley area, Stikine MLA Nathan Cullen  was noted twice  in the record for the week in the Legislature from March 15-18

The Stikine MLA spoke Tuesday to the Government's Budget of Supply and expressed his thoughts on how the Opposition has approached debate on the topic.


In the late stages of the Thursday afternoon House session, Mr. Cullen raised a point of order related to some of the terminology used by Nechako MLA John Rustad



Mr. Cullen serves as the Government's Minister of State for Lands and Natural Resource Operations
