Canadians will be jolted to alert status this afternoon, but when the klaxon horn sounds at 1:55 PM it will just be a test, part of an annual emergency preparation program to ensure that the alert system in place functions as it should.
Emergency Info BC provides more background on the testing program for today; noting that we will hear the alert tone, as well as to receive a text message on radio TV and on those cellular phones that are compatible with the alert program.
They remind us not to call 9-1-1 for additional information, that keep the 911 lines open for life threatening emergencies.
