Tomorrow marks a day of celebration for members of the Metlakatla First Nation, with the reopening of the Metlakatla Wilderness trail highlighted by a community event BBQ at 11:30 AM.
Work has been taking place on the trail system since a windstorm of the Spring of 2015 resulted in significant damage and the need for closure.
A grand opening for the wilderness trail had been scheduled for September of 2022, but was delayed until this year.
Ferry service has been announced for members of Metlakatla, with a charter leaving the Prince Rupert Dock at 10:03 AM with a return at 2:15. More on the travel arrangements can be reviewed below
There is no indication yet as to when the First Nation will open the trial to others beyond their membership, they do note that more information related to the Trail is to come in the weeks ahead.
