Some good news for the Metlakatla First Nation today from the Northern Development Initiative Trust, which has approved $79,094 in grant funding towards the rehabilitation project on the Metlakatla Wilderness Trail.
Today's announcement notes that the the funds will be put to use on the repairs to the three suspension bridges and the 72 foot viewing tower components of the trail.
The funding was among four project announcements for the day, with other funding going to Williams Lake, the North Peace and the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine, with $125,000 awarded for use at the newly built Upper Skeena Recreation Centre.

As we noted on the blog last month, work got underway on the trail in late July with crews ferrying supplies into staging areas along the trail. The Metlakatla First Nation applied for the grant funding in June of this year.
The trail which was damaged extensively during a 2015 storm has remain closed since, It's hoped that if all goes according to plan that the trail will be reopened to the public by the Spring of 2020.
