As Coast Mountain College President and CEO Ken Burt begins to wind down his duties with the Terrace based educational institution, Justin Kohlman the current Vice President Academic and Provost has been tapped to stand in on a temporary basis.
In an announcement from Monday, Coast Mountain College outlined the terms of duty for Mr. Kohlman, who will hold the position of Acting President until the end of December, that while a search for a new President is underway.
It was not disclosed in Monday's information statement, if Mr. Kohlman is going to be putting his name forward for consideration as the permanent President and CEO for the college.
“Justin is passionate about student success and has done an outstanding job helping guide the institution toward its goal of becoming the college of choice for experiential place-based learning. We are confident that his leadership will ensure that the college continues to move forward, particularly as it relates towards reconciliation with our partners.” -- Board Chair, Nicole Halbauer.
As we noted in July, Mr. Burt announced that his pending departure from the Northwest would come into effect as of September 20th, his leave taking comes after he has served five years at the head of the college.
During his time in the Northwest he brought a new direction and a new name for the college, which retired its old identity as Northwest Community College in 2018, changing over to Coast Mountain College following last years Commencement celebrations.
Monday's announcement also notes that Laurie Waye, Coast Mountain College's Dean of Business, Access Education and Fine Arts will also serve as the acting Vice President Academic as part of the transition period.
