The Terrace Detachment of the RCMP was one of the busiest places in town during the first weekend of Riverboat Days August 2-5 this year |
Like many in the Terrace area, the River Boat Days week of festivities means that sometimes you have to put up a few guests overnight and like the residents of the Skeena Valley, the Terrace detachment of the RCMP had a pretty busy time of it.
With Terrace Mounties lodging a good number of those who perhaps had over celebrated a bit, or caused a wee bit too much mayhem over the first weekend of the annual summer event.
In an information release from late Friday, the Terrace Detachment noted that they had hosted over 60 Riverboat Days guests at the Terrace facility over that first weekend, with the guests lodged between Friday August 2nd to Midnight of Monday August 5th.
From their notes, Terrace Mounties note that approximately 49 adults and 14 youth were taken to cells for their own safety. Upon their release, some were provided with court dates for a range of offences including assault, breach of conditions and obstruction.
Overall from the four day period of Friday to Monday, the Terrace detachment handled 259 files and among their many travels around the community, the members from Terrace made note of a number of middle-school aged youngsters that were intoxicated, causing trouble and braking laws.
"It’s the same thing we pointed out over the May long weekend – we have middle-schoolers intoxicated, causing problems, and breaking laws. Adults need to take responsibility for their minors. Know where your kids are, who they’re with, and what they’re doing." - Staff Sergeant Michael Robinson, Terrace Detachment RCMP
Among some of the calls that were handled by the Terrace detachment that weekend included impaired driving charges as well as assaults.
