Up to Sixty fire fighters now tasked to fight the Mehan Lake Fire north of Meziadin Junction

The BC Wildfire Service has called in an additional 20 fire figthers
as a fire near Mehan Lake on Highway 37 North has expanded overnight

A fire currently burning along the Highway 37 corridor near Bell II north of Meziadin Junction has grown towards the north over the last 24 hours and now will see additional resources deployed to tackle its challenges.

We first made note of the fire yesterday,  with the fire originally covering only 10 hectares, an area of concern that has expanded significantly in the last 48 hours

The latest update on what is now known as the Mehan Lake Fire was issued by the BC Wildfire Service today:

The fire grew northward about eight hectares overnight and is now 58 hectares. It is not threatening any communities or structures. However, it is burning near Highway 37, and smoke and firefighting activity will be visible in the area.

The BC Wildfire Service asks travellers to use extra caution when passing through the area.

An additional unit crew of 20 firefighters is en route to support the approximately 40 firefighters already on-site. Three aircraft are engaged to support the ground crews, and heavy machinery is being brought in to construct fireguards if needed.
