TV News changes for the Northwest

Cael Maslin is the face of local news for CFTK TV these days

The local television station that provides for news coverage across the Northwest appears to be in transition for its news staff, that following the departure of Brandon Cassidy for what seems to be a new career path in Lethbridge, Alberta.

The former TV 7 Anchor taking his leave in November for his new posting in the broadcast industry.

There was no official announcement of his departure, though his LinkedIn page charts his course to Alberta for his followers.

Taking over on the news desk is Cael Maslin, who was the fill in anchor prior to Cassidy's departure as well as TV 7's only reporter.

With his move to the News desk, the storytelling seems to be reduced when it comes to stories from across the region, as well as the suspension it appears for the TV7 video feed which used to chronicle their work from week to week.

The CFTK TV website, now makes for the news footprint for the station and it's rather limited as well for the moment.

The ongoing changes at CFTK have left the position of a Prince Rupert news position seemingly far down the to do list, that post has not been filled since Eddie Huband departed in October of 2022 and the volume of news coverage for Prince Rupert has been limited for much of that time on the Terrace based station

CFTK is not the only media outlet from the Skeena Valley with a reduced news delivery of late, CFNR the First Nations owned radio station has also reduced the flow of information on their website

Update: the CFTK TV video page appears to be back in operation as of December 5
