Over 200 customers without power on Prince Rupert's East side owing to motor vehicle accident

Area of the Monday evening power outage in Prince Rupert

Update: BC Hydro indicates that power was restored to affected areas by 10:15 PM

It's been a cool night to go without power, but for residents of Prince Rupert Boulevard and parts of 11th Avenue East and surrounding streets, that's the situation this Monday evening.

The first reports of the power outage came at 6:20 PM and as of 10PM the power has yet to be returned, with the cause of the disruption attributed to a motor vehicle incident.

Social media accounts indicate that a transformer box located in the Prince Rupert Boulevard/ Prince George Street area is the spot where the incident took place.

The last update provided by BC Hydro offers up hopes of a return for power by 10:30 PM

Road conditions are slick in many locations around the city tonight as we continue to see temperatures at zero or  currently at -2.

Prince Rupert RCMP have not put forward any statement related to the road incident that led to the power disruption.

The location for the damaged transformer box was at Saskatoon and Prince George
