WIND WARNING issued for Prince Rupert, Haida Gwaii for Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning

A WIND WARNING is in place for the North Coast and
Haida Gwaii starting Saturday afternoon

While we enjoy our brief moments of an unexpected White Christmas, (likely to be gone by mid day today) Environment Canada is turning its attention to an oncoming system that is destined to make for quite windy conditions from Saturday Afternoon to Sunday Morning.

Earlier this morning Environment Canada issued a WIND WARNING for the North Coast and Haida Gwaii.

The system from the Southeast will strengthen through Saturday morning with winds of 90 km/h expected by mid day Saturday with gusts of up to 120 km/h for  exposed coastal areas by Saturday evening.

Once the winds have passed through the rains will arrive, with  Rain and warm temperatures marking the Chrristmas Eve to Boxing Day period.

Up to 55 mm of rain is anticipated in that period.

The same weather system will bring Hurricane Force wind for Hecate Strait Today through Saturday, a HURRICANE FORCE WIND WARNING issued by Environment Canada this morning for the Marine areas around Haida Gwaii and the North Coast.

The Winds from the southeast increase to 30 knots near midnight tonight with the peak of the system bringing winds of 65 knots by Saturday evening.

Seas will be at 5 metres overnight building to 7 metres by Saturday afternoon

You may come across some snow if you have holiday travel inland with Terrace anticipating periods of Snow or Rain depending on the weather systems progress for Christmas Day.

Follow the Environment Canada website for updates on the weather as the holiday period moves forward.

As well follow Drive BC when it comes to any road conditions for points east of the Port Edward turnoff.
