Ridley Terminals workers launch phase two of healthy living competition with Northern BC competitors

An interesting study in healthy living has been taking place since the fall of 2014, with the North Coast's Ridley Terminals one of a number of industries taking part in an ongoing project known as Powerplay: Men's Health at work.

The initiative is designed to improve men's health, increase awareness and set goals for better living, all through better habits and awareness through those hours that they spend at work.

Since last fall, participants at RTI , as well as those at Excel Trucking, Lomak Bulk Carriers, and the City of Terrace have been setting new physical fitness and healthy eating goals.

The first phase of the competition was a six week reproduction of a walk of the Great Northern Circle Route, asking those taking part to track their
steps. Other participants in phase one embarked on a Cross Canada walk, with the Ridley Terminals team saluted for their efforts back in December.

February 2nd marked the launch of the next phase of what is being called the "Power Playoff Challenge"  where participants collect minutes of ice time through whatever physical activity they are taking part in, such things as taking a walk during a break, taking part in recreation league activities or other forms exercise.

As well as through those efforts of their increased exercise regimens, participants will collect points by making healthy eating choices.

The teams that have accumulated the most minutes of ice time and have scored the most goals will win the competition which comes to an end in six weeks time.

The project is a cooperative effort of a number of health agencies and educational institutions in the province, the outline of the program can be found from this media release of earlier this week.

You can learn more about what the participants from Ridley Terminals are up from the Facebook page of the challenge or through the Harmonization website
