City of Prince Rupert on the hunt for new Deputy Fire Chief

Prince Rupert Fire/Rescue has a new job posting
seeking the services of a Deputy Chief

The latest of job postings from City Hall has put out the call for a senior position in the Prince Rupert Fire/Rescue Department with the Emergency Responders seeking the services of a Deputy Fire Chief.

The details of the position and job requierments which were posted last week, note how the PRFD is looking for someone with an infectious attitude, effective management and administrative skills to go along with solid fire fighting experience.

The deadline for applications is May 10th, the position which is union exempt does not list any salary parameters, however last year the senior position in the department paid in the range of $140,000.

From the listings of  last year's SOFI report the Deputy and Fire Chief oversee a twenty member Department in Prince Rupert, which had a total payroll of just over 2.4 million dollars from the last financial disclosure from the City.

As the Department nears the point where a number of retirements are in the offing, there may be more job opportunities to come for Prince Rupert Fire/Rescue, however a question that any prospective Deputy Chief may want to ask will be what kind of Department that he or she will be asked to part of the management team of.

As we noted in February, City Council had a review a report on a Change in Service Protection Level from the Fire/Rescue service on the Agenda for their February 11th meeting.

However, before they even had a chance to bring the topic to the discussion table that night, Councillor Barry Cunningham had requested that it be tabled, with the Mayor then suggesting that the council members review the document in some kind of committee process, something that appears to have taken place outside of the public Council sessions.

At the time Council was set to review amendments to the Fire Service that would impact on staffing levels for the Department, and what level of service would be provided upon attendance at a fire scene.

Perhaps once they've settled on a new Deputy Chief and announced his or her hiring; the Mayor and City Council will also provide some kind of update for the residents of the city as to what level of fire fighting service they can expect from the members of the Department.
